Miracles Do Happen Project
Description:
Students will be involved in an interdisciplinary study of genetic
inheritance that revolves around the life of a Simmental calf combining
scientific, bioethical, and economic agricultural issues.
Students will explore the genetic improvement of cattle through
planned matings and embryo transfer work.
Ultrasound will determine pregnancy and fetal sexing while later
ultrasounds determine the carcass quality of the live calf.
Bioethical issues will be posted on our WebPages for research use.
Students will participate in a teleconference with leading geneticists
from the American Simmental Association and establish a dialogue with students
living on western Simmental ranches as they learn about farm life in other
regions.
Students will accumulate production cost data in spreadsheet form
and present their data graphically to facilitate cost comparisons, profit and
loss, and other data analysis.
Follow along as we enter the world of genetics and biotechnology.
